LAW PRACTICE
Ed Lawson is a partner at Michael Best & Friedrich and after spending a year in the Shanghai office, Ed has
returned to the Unites States and is located in the Washington DC office. He focuses his practice exclusively
in intellectual property law, including the preparation, protection, enforcement and prosecution of patents
in the United States and foreign countries, including China, in technology relating to mechanical engineering,
material sciences, and food and dairy products. Mr. Lawson has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of United
States and foreign patent applications relating to specific client products and design concepts and is registered
to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Lawson’s work experience includes advising and representing international and Chinese clients in:

  • Developing solutions to maximize the value of a client’s intellectual property assets
  • Maintaining and managing the intellectual property assets and portfolios for several of clients and
    monitoring competitor patents and products to counsel clients on potential infringement risks and claims
  • Preparing and prosecuting hundreds of U.S. and foreign patent applications relating to specific client products and design concepts, such as electric power tools (including mechanical and electrical technology); excavation equipment; wastewater treatment equipment and processes; pneumatic and hydraulic systems and valves; and clamping devices
  • Conducting interviews and correspondence with examiners at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to successfully expedite prosecution of patent applications
